1st Annual Summit on Biodiversity, Conservation, and Sustainable Biotechnologies (BioCSB 2022)
Dates & Format: Held fully online in 2022 due to COVID-19 restrictions. Advanced teleconferencing and virtual breakout rooms were used to facilitate live presentations, panel discussions, and Q&A sessions.
Participants: 62 delegates representing 5 countries (including Uzbekistan, India, Nigeria, Indonesia, and Kazakhstan).
Key Themes:
  1. Presentations on innovative methods of data collection and community engagement amid a global pandemic.
  2. Virtual workshops focused on sustainable crop development for biodiversity preservation.
Notable Outcome: Despite the entirely virtual format, attendees praised the conference’s ability to foster international collaboration. Several working groups formed to continue research on digital resource management for biodiversity.

  • Dates & Location: Hosted in 2023 at Al-Baha University, Saudi Arabia. This marked the conference’s first in-person gathering following the global lockdowns.
  • Participants: 73 attendees representing 7 nations (including Saudi Arabia, India, Kazakhstan, Ethiopia, China, Uzbekistan, and Nigeria).
  • Conference Highlights:
  1. Leading environmental scientists shared cutting-edge research on conserving flora and fauna in desert climates.
  2. Roundtable discussions propelled multinational partnerships focusing on eco-friendly biotech solutions.
  • Notable Outcome: The immersive environment of Al-Baha University, coupled with field tours of local conservation projects, offered participants firsthand insights into biodiversity challenges unique to desert ecosystems. Several pilot projects on sustainable water usage were initiated.

3rd Annual Summit on Biodiversity, Conservation, and Sustainable Biotechnologies (BioCSB 2024)
Dates & Location: Took place in Iraq in 2024, further solidifying the conference’s presence in the Middle East.
Participants: 85 professionals hailing from 9 different countries (including Iraq, Egypt, Morocco, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Nigeria, and UAE).
Key Themes:
  1. Special sessions addressed the revival of local ecosystems impacted by conflict, highlighting successful reforestation models and wildlife rehabilitation methods.
  2. Workshops offered insights into how CRISPR and other biotech tools can support biodiversity restoration in fragile habitats.
Notable Outcome: Cross-continental collaborations expanded the scope of biodiversity research to include socio-economic factors, such as community-led conservation practices. Multiple journal special issues were planned, showcasing innovative approaches to biodiversity preservation in conflict and post-conflict regions.
